The Manchester Concert Orchestra was formed in July 1997 by Raymond Gubbay to perform in concerts of popular classical music at the Bridgewater Hall and other venues in the North West of England. Its inaugural concert attracted a sell-out audience at The Bridgewater Hall and received much critical acclaim.
The Orchestra has since performed with concert tours of The Best of the Last Night of the Proms, Tchaikovsky galas as well as popular evenings of light music including Rodgers and Hammerstein galas and evenings of music by Cole Porter. It also played for a production of Madam Butterfly at both the Manchester Evening News Arena and Sheffield Arena, again to great critical acclaim.
The Manchester Concert Orchestra is now a major force in the region performing a wide variety of programmes throughout the year including this special season of concerts for Christmas and the New Year. In addition to a continuing association primarily with the Bridgewater Hall, the Orchestra tours regularly to major venues around the UK.
